What determines the price and cost of sandwich panels and how to choose high-quality products for the construction of commercial buildings.

Before buying sandwich panels, an investor usually calculates the cost of supplying sandwich panels and their installation by different companies and draws up a total budget for the construction of envelope structures.
Depending on the brand, the price of a sandwich panel per square meter can vary by up to 20%, but in most cases, it is not worth saving money, but rather purchasing more durable and energy-efficient structures.
Type of the core
The main types of sandwich panel core are expanded polystyrene (EPS), polyurethane foam (PU), polyisocyanurate (PIR) and mineral wool (MW). The cheapest panels are made of EPS, and the most expensive are made of mineral wool.
If the fire resistance requirements for building envelope structures are from EI15 to EI45, PIR panels are the best solution in terms of price/energy efficiency. For buildings with fire resistance requirements of EI60 and above, it is more appropriate to use only mineral wool panels. Sandwich panels with foam are used mainly for temporary buildings, as they have low durability and zero fire resistance. PU foam is an old version of PIR, so it is inferior in terms of characteristics and such panels are mostly made on outdated equipment and do not meet the requirements of modern building standards.
Thickness
The greater the thickness of a sandwich panel, the higher its price, but also the better its thermal insulation, strength, fire protection and acoustic characteristics.
The most popular panels are 100 mm thick with PIR and 160 mm thick with mineral wool core, which meet the thermal engineering requirements of DBN B.2.6-31 for the envelope structures of residential and public buildings.
Steel grade, thickness and type of polymer coating of the facing
The higher quality and thicker the steel of the facing, the higher the price of sandwich panels. The most common is the use of 0.5-0.6 mm thick facing. To reduce the cost, sandwich panel producers can use an inner facing made of 0.4 mm thick steel.
The type of steel coating can significantly affect the cost of the panels, as it affects the ability to operate sandwich panels in various types of aggressive environments.
Panel type
The cost of sandwich panels is influenced by their type (wall or roof) and the type of fastening (visible or hidden). For the same thickness, the price of roofing sandwich panels is about 5-8% higher than that of wall sandwich panels.
Sandwich panels for cold rooms are a separate more expensive type of product due to the energy-efficient joint.

Producers
The cheapest sandwich panels are offered by Ukrainian producers, and the highest quality ones by European companies Ruukki, Kingspan and Izopanel.
Today, products of the following sandwich panel manufacturers are available in Ukraine: Adamietz, AlyuTerm, Arcelor, Arsenal, Arpanel, Asten, Balex, BP2, Brucha, Gor-Stal, Inteco, Isopan, Isomec, Izopanel, Izovol, Joris, Kingspan, Lindab, Metecno, NTK, Paneltech, Pantec, Paroc, Promstan, Pruszynski, Romakowski, Ruukki, Tata, Trimo, Termo-bud, TPK, USP.
Order volume
Sandwich panels are produced according to individual orders, taking into account the design documentation, installation and operation of a particular building requirements. The lowest price of sandwich panels can be for a large order of several thousand m2, and the highest – for an order of up to 100 m2.
Additional features
The cost of sandwich panels is also affected by additional parameters, such as different density and fire resistance of the core, the presence of a gasket seal in the locks, etc.

The total cost of building envelope structures consists of the price of sandwich panels and accessories, as well as the cost of installation. The installation of sandwich panels, which are very low in price, can be difficult because cheap sandwich panels usually have poor geometry. The price for sandwich panels installation depends on the timeframe, building height and facade appearance requirements and ranges from €8 to €15/m2 including VAT.
